Saswata Chatterjee has reportedly joined the cast of Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story, the upcoming biopic based on the life of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. According to recent reports, the actor has already begun shooting for the film in Mumbai and will portray Sourav Ganguly’s father, Chandi Ganguly.
The biopic stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead role as Sourav Ganguly and is being directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. Reports suggest that actors Aparajita Auddy and Rahul Dev Bose are also part of the ongoing Mumbai schedule, playing Ganguly’s mother Nirupa Ganguly and brother Snehasish Ganguly respectively.
A source quoted in media reports stated that Sourav Ganguly himself was present on set during the filming on Sunday. The production team is also expected to begin a Kolkata shooting schedule later this month.
The film will reportedly feature Tanya Maniktala as Dona Ganguly. Before the makers finalised Tanya for the role, several Bengali actresses, including Mimi Chakraborty, Ishaa Saha and Amrita Chattopadhyay, were said to be under consideration.
The biographical drama is expected to chronicle Sourav Ganguly’s rise from his early cricketing days to becoming one of India’s most influential captains. Apart from his achievements on the field, the story is also likely to explore his personal life and long-standing relationship with Dona Ganguly.
Earlier, Rajkummar Rao had officially confirmed his involvement in the project through social media, expressing both excitement and nervousness about portraying the cricket icon. The actor described the role as a huge responsibility and said he was looking forward to the journey.
Rajkummar Rao was last seen in the Netflix film Toaster, alongside Sanya Malhotra, Archana Puran Singh and Abhishek Banerjee.
