The nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards have been officially announced, with medical drama The Pitt emerging as the biggest contender this year. The critically acclaimed series leads the race with 25 nominations, closely followed by comedy-drama Hacks with 24. The Bay secured 19 nominations, while Pluribus earned 18, making them among the strongest performers in this year’s awards season.
Another standout was Spider-Noir, which received 11 nominations, further highlighting the diverse range of programming recognised by the Television Academy.
In the prestigious Best Drama Series category, the nominees include The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, The Pitt, Pluribus, Slow Horses, and Your Friends & Neighbours. The category reflects a mix of returning favourites and critically acclaimed newcomers.
The Lead Actor in a Drama Series lineup features Sterling K. Brown (Paradise), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), Mark Ruffalo (Task), Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat), and Noah Wyle (The Pitt). Competing for Lead Actress in a Drama Series are Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age), Chase Infiniti (The Testaments), Keri Russell (The Diplomat), Rhea Seehorn (Pluribus), and Zendaya (Euphoria).
Comedy categories are equally competitive, with Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking, and Widow’s Bay vying for Best Comedy Series. The Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category includes Quinta Brunson, Ayo Edebiri, Elle Fanning, Lisa Kudrow, and Jean Smart, while Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Steve Carell, Matthew Rhys, Jason Segel, and Martin Short are nominated for Lead Actor.
In the Limited or Anthology Series category, nominees include All Her Fault, The Beast in Me, Beef, DTF St Louis, and Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Riz Ahmed, Jason Bateman, Charlie Hunnam, Oscar Isaac, and Matthew Rhys compete in the lead actor category, while Claire Danes, Sally Field, Carey Mulligan, Sarah Pidgeon, and Sarah Snook are nominated for lead actress.
The nominations also recognise excellence in television movies, directing, writing, live variety specials and reality programming. The Television Movie category includes Heads of State, Miss You, Love You, People We Meet on Vacation, Remarkably Bright Creatures, and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War.
Among Variety Special (Live) nominees are The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny, the 83rd Annual Golden Globes, the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, The Oscars, and the 78th Annual Tony Awards.
The Reality Competition Series category features Dancing with the Stars, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Survivor, Top Chef, and The Traitors, while writing and directing honours span drama, comedy and limited series, showcasing the breadth of television talent across genres.
