Kajol Recalls Shooting Fanaa In -27°C Weather As Film Completes 20 Years

Two decades after its release, Fanaa continues to remain one of Bollywood’s most loved romantic dramas. Marking the film’s 20th anniversary on Monday, Kajol took a nostalgic trip down memory lane and shared behind-the-scenes moments from the film on social media.

Reflecting on the experience of shooting the film in extreme weather conditions, Kajol recalled filming in Poland during freezing temperatures while dressed in light traditional outfits. Sharing a series of throwback pictures, the actress wrote that what she remembers most about the journey was “Poland in all its glory,” along with the harsh minus 27-degree Celsius weather, beautiful forests and snow-covered sidewalks.

The actress also humorously mentioned how she had to wear a thin salwar kameez while most of the crew stayed protected in heavy winter clothing. Calling it “a blast from the past,” Kajol added that her daughter was only two-and-a-half years old when the film was being shot.

Directed by Kunal Kohli, Fanaa released in theatres on May 26, 2006, and starred Aamir Khan opposite Kajol. The romantic thriller revolved around Zooni, a visually impaired Kashmiri woman who falls in love with the charming tourist guide Rehan, only to later discover shocking truths about his identity.

Written by Shibani Bathija, Kunal Kohli and Preeti Singh, the film featured an ensemble cast including Rishi Kapoor, Tabu, Kirron Kher, Lara Dutta, Shiney Ahuja, Gautami Kapoor, Sharat Saxena and Satish Shah.

Backed by Yash Raj Films and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra, Fanaa emerged as a major commercial success. Its music, emotional storyline and the chemistry between Kajol and Aamir Khan continue to be remembered fondly by audiences even today.

On the professional front, Kajol is gearing up for her next project, Maharagni – Queen of Queens, directed by Charantej Uppalapati.
