Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran are set to present a fierce and intense side of themselves in their upcoming investigative crime thriller Daayra. Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, the film has already generated considerable buzz for its gripping subject, complex characters and the performances of its lead actors.
The makers recently unveiled new posters featuring Kareena and Prithviraj as two righteous police officers. Prithviraj essays DCP Raman Kumar, a disciplined cop who firmly believes in upholding the law. The poster’s caption read, “DCP Raman Kumar upholds the law. And never breaks his own rules.”
Kareena, meanwhile, plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, a sharp and determined officer whose understanding of the law is matched by her unwavering principles. “DCP Ajooni knows the law. And she stands by it,” read the caption accompanying her poster.
Kareena has previously portrayed characters connected to law enforcement and investigation in films such as The Buckingham Murders and Angrezi Medium. However, Daayra sees her taking a more restrained approach to performance. Speaking about her preparation, the actress revealed that she had to suppress her naturally expressive acting style to portray Ajooni’s stoic and controlled personality.
The film revolves around the disappearance and murder of a young girl and delves into the grey areas of justice, institutional apathy and the moral dilemmas faced by those tasked with enforcing the law.
Prithviraj’s character, meanwhile, is marked by calm authority and an unvarnished screen presence. The actor has revealed that he had several creative debates with Meghna Gulzar over Raman’s extrajudicial methods. However, he praised the director’s meticulous preparation and logical approach to character development.
With its dark subject and formidable lead pairing, Daayra is shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated crime thrillers. The film is scheduled to release worldwide in theatres on September 18, 2026.
