After a successful theatrical run, Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, has officially premiered on Prime Video on December 16, 2025. Backed by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films and co-produced by Amar Kaushik, the film marks another ambitious addition to the studio’s ever-expanding horror-comedy universe.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and written by Niren Bhatt, Arun Fulara and Suresh Mathew, Thamma blends supernatural horror with humour, romance and drama, drawing inspiration from Indian folklore while maintaining a contemporary narrative sensibility. Alongside the lead pair, the film features Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a striking role, supported by Paresh Rawal and Faisal Malik in pivotal parts. The ensemble is further elevated by special appearances from Varun Dhawan, Abhishek Banerjee, Nora Fatehi and Malaika Arora.
Speaking about the film’s reception and its digital release, Ayushmann Khurrana highlighted what drew him to the project in the first place. He described Thamma as a genre-defying experience that seamlessly merges supernatural and horror elements with emotion, romance and humour. For the actor, the freshness of the script and its unconventional storytelling were key motivators. He expressed satisfaction that, after receiving strong audience appreciation in theatres, the film will now find a wider global audience through streaming.
Rashmika Mandanna shared that Thamma marked her first foray into the supernatural comedy space and called the experience both exciting and creatively fulfilling. She noted that the scale of the film, coupled with its engaging storyline and her character, made it an enjoyable project to be part of. With its OTT release, she looks forward to the film connecting with viewers beyond India.
For Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the appeal lay in portraying Yakshasan, a character unlike anything he had previously explored. The actor described the experience of bringing a mythological vampire-like being to life on screen as deeply immersive and challenging. With the film now streaming, he is eager to see how digital audiences respond to this unique character and the larger narrative.
Producer Dinesh Vijan reflected on Thamma as an extension of Maddock Films’ vision of building a distinctive cinematic universe rooted in Indian folklore while experimenting with genre mash-ups. He emphasized that the collaboration with Prime Video aligns with the studio’s goal of taking fresh, unconventional Indian stories to diverse global audiences. The worldwide digital premiere, he noted, is a significant step in expanding the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe across borders.
Thamma joins an established lineup within this universe, which includes Stree (2018), Bhediya (2022), Stree 2 (2024) and Munjya (2024). With its OTT release, the film is poised to further strengthen the franchise’s reach and reaffirm the audience’s appetite for genre-bending Indian cinema.
