Tannishtha Chatterjee wins Best Actress Award in Mexico’s Top Festival for LIHAAF

Indian actress Tannishtha Chatterjee is known for her role in Parched and Angry Indian Goddesses, has been awarded the Best Actress award for her role in Rahat Kazmi’s film Lihaaf: The Quilt. Tannishtha has played the role of Ismat Chughtai, the author on whose story the film is based. The actress has garnered appreciation for her role in the film at worldwide screenings and premieres but it is the first time, she has been entitled to an award for this movie.

The Queer International Film Festival Playa del Carmen (Mexico), which held its 6th edition this November selected Tannishtha Chatterjee for their Best Actress award and it is a moment of great pride for the entire team. The festival which was screened from November 8 to November 14 premiered Lihaaf: The Quilt on November 10 which was a jam-packed session and received huge applaud. Unfortunately, Tannishtha Chatterjee could not attend the premiere of her film as well as the award ceremony as she was busy with her directorial debut, Roam Rome Mein but she was glad to receive this news and thanked the eminent jury and the organizing team for conferring her with this honor.

Queer International Film Festival is held every year with an objective to provide a space for the exhibition of quality films while supporting productions whose central themes are sexual diversity and the defense of human rights. At the same time, this contest creates a meeting place for all those involved in the production of this kind of cinema, as well as for people who want to do the same in the future or are interested in similar topics.

Lihaaf: The Quilt has been co-written by Rahat Kazmi and Sonal Sehgal and produced by Rahat Kazmi, Tariq Khan, Zeba Sajid, Namita Lal (Singapore), Umesh Shukla and Ashish Wagh. It is co-produced by Oscar-winning producer Marc Baschet (Known for Oscar-winning No Man’s Land and Lunch Box) while Golda Sellam of Cinelink France is a creative consultant on this project.
