The highly acclaimed 2016 crime drama Udta Punjab might soon have a sequel. Ekta Kapoor is reportedly developing Udta Punjab 2, which will once again explore Punjab’s drug crisis. While the project is still in its early stages, several interesting details have emerged.
Aakash Kaushik Takes the Director’s Chair
Unlike the first film, which was helmed by Abhishek Chaubey, the sequel will be directed by Aakash Kaushik. Known for his work on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Housefull 4, Kaushik has been brought in to write and direct the film. Chaubey is not involved this time due to prior commitments to other projects.
Shahid Kapoor’s Possible Return
One of the biggest questions surrounding Udta Punjab 2 is whether Shahid Kapoor will reprise his role. Sources indicate that Ekta Kapoor is keen on bringing him back, but nothing has been finalized yet. The decision will largely depend on the final script.
A New Approach to Punjab’s Drug Crisis
While the sequel won’t continue the same storyline from the first film, it will once again focus on Punjab’s drug problem. This time, reports suggest a deeper and more investigative take on the issue, shedding light on new aspects of the crisis.
Production Timeline and Other Projects
If all goes as planned, Udta Punjab 2 is expected to go into production next year. Apart from this project, Kapoor is also reportedly working on Dream Girl 3 and a sequel to Veere Di Wedding. Meanwhile, The Dirty Picture 2 and A Flying Jatt 2 were previously announced but have yet to move forward.
With Udta Punjab 2 in development, fans eagerly await official confirmations and more updates on the project. Will Shahid Kapoor return? Will the sequel live up to the first film’s impact? Only time will tell.
