Rajkummar Rao Goes Full Kanjoos in Netflix’s Toaster Trailer

Sometimes, all it takes is one seemingly insignificant object to send life completely off the rails, and Netflix’s Toaster looks ready to prove exactly that. The newly released trailer for the upcoming dark comedy wastes no time pulling viewers into a world where thrift, stubbornness, and misplaced sentimentality collide in the most absurd way possible.

At the centre of the madness is Ramakant, played by Rajkummar Rao, a man whose relationship with money is less about saving and more about survival. The trailer paints him as a deeply committed miser- practical in his own mind, but increasingly irrational to everyone around him. What begins with a gifted toaster that appears to have gone to waste soon spirals into a bizarre mission of retrieval, triggering a chain of comic misadventures that only grow messier with every step.

What makes the trailer especially compelling is its balance of deadpan humour and escalating disorder. Ramakant’s fixation may seem ridiculous on the surface, but the preview hints at something far more layered underneath-a man so convinced of his own logic that he can’t see the chaos he’s causing. That contradiction gives Toaster its sharp comic edge, turning a simple household appliance into the unlikely centre of a full-blown meltdown.

Directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary and produced by Patralekhaa under Kampa Film, Toaster brings together an eclectic ensemble led by Sanya Malhotra, with Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Farah Khan, Upendra Limaye, Vinod Rawat, Jitendra Joshi, and Seema Pahwa rounding out the cast. From the trailer alone, the film appears to thrive on the unpredictable energy of its characters, each adding their own flavour to the confusion.

Speaking about the film, Rajkummar Rao shared that Toaster holds special significance as it marks the first film under their production banner, Kampa Film, produced by Patralekhaa. He also noted that what drew him to the story was the idea of how “something so small can completely take over a person’s mind,” describing Ramakant as someone who genuinely believes he is simply being practical. That emotional sincerity, he suggested, is exactly what makes the character’s downward spiral so entertaining to watch.

With its eccentric premise, offbeat humour, and steadily intensifying chaos, Toaster looks set to serve up a dark comedy that is both peculiar and sharply relatable. If the trailer is anything to go by, this is one kitchen appliance that’s about to cause far more damage than anyone expected.
