Rahul Mishra’s AFEW Collection Presented by SUPIMA at Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI

At a time when fashion is increasingly driven by both innovation and responsibility, SUPIMA’s collaboration with AFEW Rahul Mishra arrives as a compelling testament to the power of material-led storytelling. Unveiled at Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI in Mumbai, the showcase brings together the richness of premium cotton, the depth of Indian craftsmanship, and a contemporary design perspective that bridges heritage with modernity.

This presentation marks a deeply significant milestone in Rahul Mishra’s journey, celebrating 20 years since his debut on the GenNext platform in 2006. Long before the launch of his eponymous label in 2013, this moment reflects two decades of consistent exploration, refinement, and a steadfast commitment to craft. Through AFEW, the designer revisits his evolution—honouring the values that have remained constant while embracing new material possibilities.

At the core of the collection lies Rahul Mishra’s enduring relationship with India’s textile heritage. Known for his dedication to handloom practices, the designer seamlessly integrates traditional techniques with a contemporary fashion vocabulary. SUPIMA cotton forms the foundation of this narrative, chosen for its exceptional softness, strength, and versatility—qualities that align naturally with Mishra’s design philosophy.

Expanding the material dialogue, the collection also introduces lightweight SUPIMA denim, extending cotton’s expression across varied silhouettes and occasions. This nuanced exploration of fabric underscores the adaptability of cotton, reimagined through a luxury lens.

Signature hand embroidery remains a defining element of the showcase, reinforcing the atelier’s emphasis on human touch, precision, and intricate storytelling through surface design. Motifs draw inspiration from the cotton ecosystem itself—cotton buds, florals, and insects—translating agricultural realities into poetic visual language. Elements such as marigolds and mustard flowers, traditionally cultivated alongside cotton crops to naturally divert insects, are reinterpreted as symbolic motifs within the collection.

Marc Lewkowitz, President and CEO of SUPIMA, reflects on the longstanding association, sharing, “SUPIMA’s relationship with Rahul Mishra goes back to the very first SUPIMA Design Lab organized in Paris 10 years ago. We are excited to see this partnership evolve into a full collection of SUPIMA looks for AFEW Rahul Mishra debuting at Lakmē Fashion Week. The Indian market is dynamic and full of opportunity, and together, the possibilities are endless.”

Rahul Mishra adds, “Twenty years ago, the GenNext platform gave me the courage to imagine a different future for Indian craft. This showcase with SUPIMA feels like a natural continuation of that journey. Cotton has always been deeply connected to our textile heritage, and working with SUPIMA allowed us to explore its lightness, strength, and adaptability in new ways while remaining rooted in handloom and hand embroidery.”

With this collaboration, SUPIMA Presents AFEW Rahul Mishra reinforces Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI’s ongoing commitment to craftsmanship-led design, responsible materiality, and the evolving global narrative of Indian fashion—where tradition and innovation coexist with quiet confidence.
