Priyanka Chopra Shares Heartwarming Story From Her Roka Ceremony With Nick Jonas

Love stories that bridge cultures often carry moments that stay unforgettable for years, and the journey of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas is filled with many such memories. Married since 2018, the couple has often spoken about the blend of traditions that shaped their wedding celebrations. Recently, Priyanka looked back at one particularly meaningful moment — their roka ceremony — revealing how it became a deeply emotional milestone for her and her family.

During an appearance on the podcast Mythical Kitchen, the actor shared that the ceremony turned out to be far more elaborate and sentimental than she had expected. She credited her mother, Madhu Chopra, for creating a memorable experience, especially because Priyanka’s father was not there to witness the occasion.

Priyanka explained that her mother wanted the ritual to feel special and meaningful. The space in their home was transformed to reflect the significance of the moment, with traditional arrangements for the ceremony. Four priests conducted the rituals while chants filled the room, and a sacred fire was placed at the center for the havan ceremony. According to the actor, the entire setting created an atmosphere that made the occasion feel far more profound than she had anticipated.

She recalled that although Nick had already proposed, the reality of entering a new phase of life truly struck her during the roka. Walking into the ceremony hand in hand with him made her realize that this was the moment she was formally stepping into a new chapter. For Priyanka, it symbolized the point where she consciously chose the family she was about to build.

Nick’s enthusiasm for embracing Indian traditions also left a strong impression on her relatives. Priyanka shared that he performed the rituals sincerely, which delighted many of the elders present. Her aunts were especially amused and impressed seeing him participate fully — from chanting “swaha” during the havan to even playing the dholak.

After the ceremony concluded, the couple shared a quiet moment together before returning to join the rest of the family for lunch. Priyanka remembered Nick holding her hand and remarking that the experience felt strangely familiar, as if they had shared several lifetimes together already.

In Hindu wedding traditions, couples circle the sacred fire seven times, symbolizing a promise to stay together for seven lifetimes. When Nick expressed that sentiment, Priyanka said it deeply touched her. Curious about what he meant, she asked him about the comment, and his response only strengthened her feelings. He told her the experience felt like home to him and that he wanted to continue discovering and sharing such traditions with her.

Priyanka later reflected that moments like these made it impossible not to fall even more in love with him.

The couple eventually celebrated their grand wedding in 2018 in Jodhpur, combining Indian and Western ceremonies. Today, they continue to share their life together with their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, whom they welcomed in 2022 through surrogacy.
