Prime Video has officially announced the much-anticipated fifth season of its beloved rural comedy-drama Panchayat, following the overwhelming response to Season 4, which launched on June 23. The announcement came with the unveiling of the first-look poster featuring the show’s ensemble cast, including Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Ashok Pathak, and Sunita Rajwar, who is seen leading the lineup as Kranti Devi, while Neena Gupta’s Manju Devi appears at the end holding a lauki, a nod to the storyline’s signature symbol.
The makers posted, “Hi 5 Phulera wapas aane ki taiyyaari shuru kar lijiye, #PanchayatOnPrime, New Season, Coming Soon” on Instagram, sparking excitement among fans eager to return to the charming village of Phulera.
After captivating viewers across India and globally, Season 4 has become the series’ most-watched season, trending in over 42 countries—including the USA, UK, Australia, and Canada—within its launch week. The season, which revolves around the high-stakes panchayat elections in Phulera, sees Manju Devi fighting to retain her position using the lauki as her election symbol while facing competition from Kranti Devi, who chooses the pressure cooker, symbolising the rising tensions within the village.
Since its debut in 2020, Panchayat has steadily garnered accolades and affection, including winning the Best Web Series (OTT) award at the 54th International Film Festival of India in 2023 for its second season. The growing popularity of the show is evident in its ability to reach audiences in over 180 countries and across 95% of India’s pin codes within days of its release.
