Netflix is set to unveil a captivating exploration of Nayanthara’s journey to stardom in the upcoming biopic, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale, premiering on November 18. Known as the “Lady Superstar” of South Indian cinema, Nayanthara has captured the hearts of millions, a journey now documented in a film that promises fans and audiences a rare, behind-the-scenes look at her rise to prominence and personal life.
Promoted with the tagline, “In every universe, she’s the brightest star,” the biopic aims to celebrate not only Nayanthara’s illustrious career but also the personal values and experiences that have shaped her into one of the most celebrated actors in Indian cinema. A newly-released poster shows Nayanthara poised elegantly in a black dress, gazing confidently back at the camera amidst the flashbulbs of paparazzi, encapsulating the allure and charm that defines her public image.

The documentary teaser, released earlier this month, opens with Vignesh Shivan, Nayanthara’s husband and acclaimed filmmaker, lightheartedly responding to the question of “Why Nayanthara?” With a touch of humor, he replies, “Angelina Jolie also asked, but she isn’t from South India,” capturing the affectionate rapport between the couple. Nayanthara herself shares candid insights, expressing her modest view of fame, “I don’t understand the tags or titles,” while Vignesh adds, “More than Nayanthara the actress, she’s a wonderful human being.” The couple’s warmth and humor are on full display, showcasing a rarely-seen side of Nayanthara beyond her on-screen persona.
The documentary also promises a detailed look into the extravagant celebrations surrounding Nayanthara and Vignesh’s wedding, held on June 9, 2022, in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. Just months after the wedding, in October 2022, the couple celebrated the birth of their twin sons, Uyir and Ulagam.
From the South Indian film industry to Bollywood, Nayanthara has broken boundaries, recently making her Hindi film debut in the 2023 blockbuster Jawan. Beyond this, her most recent Tamil film, Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food, has garnered praise for its unique storytelling and Nayanthara’s powerful performance. She is also set to appear in Test, and in the Malayalam film Dear Students, reuniting with her Love Action Drama co-star Nivin Pauly. Another exciting project, directed by Vishu Edavan, will see Nayanthara in an untitled role opposite Kavin, adding further anticipation to her filmography.
With Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale, Netflix is poised to offer fans a rare opportunity to see beyond the spotlight and into the life of a star who has made an indelible mark on Indian cinema. As Nayanthara’s story comes to the screen, audiences can expect a celebration of not just her roles but also her resilience, personal growth, and the grace with which she navigates her public and private worlds.
