In the film industry, where even brief interactions can ignite speculation, dating rumours have almost become routine. The latest to be caught in such chatter are Mrunal Thakur and Tamil superstar Dhanush, who have been spotted together on more than one occasion.
The gossip gained traction earlier this month during the premiere of Son of Sardaar 2, featuring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal. Dhanush, an unannounced guest, arrived in style and shared a friendly side hug with Mrunal before moving on to the red carpet. That short exchange was enough to set social media buzzing, with many assuming his presence was to show personal support for the actress.
Mrunal has now addressed the talk head-on. Speaking to Only Kollywood, she laughed off the speculation, saying: “Dhanush and I share a good friendship, nothing more. I’ve seen all the talk linking us lately, and honestly, it made me smile. His presence at the Son of Sardaar 2 premiere shouldn’t be misread — it was Ajay Devgn who invited him, not me.”
She further noted that their friendship has been misinterpreted due to public appearances. Prior to the premiere, she attended the wrap-up party of Tere Ishk Mein — Dhanush’s upcoming film with director Aanand L. Rai — which first sparked rumours. Observant fans also noticed she had started following Dhanush’s sisters on Instagram, adding fuel to the story, but Mrunal insists there’s nothing romantic involved.
For Dhanush, this is the first time his name has been linked to an actress since his divorce from Aishwarya Rajinikanth was finalised in November 2024. The former couple, parents to two sons — Yatra and Linga — had announced their separation back in 2022.
Both stars have packed work schedules ahead. Dhanush is working on the Tamil film Idly Kadai, Aanand L. Rai’s Tere Ishk Mein opposite Kriti Sanon, and D54, directed by Vignesh Raja. Mrunal, meanwhile, will soon appear in Dacoit: A Love Story and has Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai with Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde set for release in 2026.
Though the rumour mill thrives on pairing celebrities together, Mrunal’s clear statement makes it plain — this Bollywood-Kollywood connection is firmly rooted in friendship, not romance.
