Anurag Basu’s Metro…In Dino, which arrived in cinemas on July 4, is now making its way to digital screens. After a month and a half in theatres, the film is slated to begin streaming on Netflix from August 29. The platform confirmed the news on Instagram with the caption: “Agla station: Pyaar, heartbreaks aur thodi si ummeed. Watch Metro… In Dino, out 29 August, on Netflix!”
The film, which released as a solo title between Kajol’s Maa and Ahaan Panday–Aneet Padda’s Saiyaara, opened to positive reviews but could not match expectations at the box office.
Basu, who previously directed the acclaimed Life In A…Metro (2007), returned with this spiritual sequel, once again exploring the complexities of urban relationships. The film interwove four interconnected stories, capturing the highs and lows of love in today’s fast-paced world—ranging from youthful romance to the struggles of long-term commitments.
The ensemble cast featured Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Konkona Sen Sharma, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, and Anupam Kher. Their performances were praised for adding depth and nuance to the narrative.
Though well-received critically, Metro…In Dino could not achieve the expected commercial success. Released in the gap between Kajol’s Maa and Saiyaara, the film opened modestly at ₹3.5 crore and sustained momentum for nearly three weeks. However, its run slowed down after Saiyaara hit theatres, and it concluded at ₹52.1 crore after four weeks. The film now heads to Netflix, where Basu’s layered tale of love and heartbreak may reach far more viewers than it did in cinemas.
