Madhur Bhandarkar, the National Award-winning filmmaker known for peeling back the glossy layers of society, has officially begun shooting his next film, The Wives, in Mumbai today.
After Page 3, Fashion, and Chandni Bar, Bhandarkar now turns his lens towards the unseen lives of Bollywood’s star wives, promising another hard-hitting narrative that blends glamour with grit.
A Peek Behind the Curtains of Stardom
The Wives will explore the silent struggles, emotional complexities, and hidden realities of women married to Bollywood’s biggest names—often photographed on red carpets yet rarely heard beyond them.
“In The Wives, I want to peel back yet another glamorous layer of society and show what really lies beneath. It will be a bold, unapologetic look at the secrets, struggles, and resilience of women often seen but seldom heard,” Bhandarkar shared in a statement.
A Stellar Ensemble
The film brings together a powerful cast, including Sonali Kulkarni, Mouni Roy, Regina Cassandra, Rahul Bhatt, Saurabh Sachdeva, Arjan Bajwa, and Freddy Daruwala, all set to bring depth to characters navigating lives caught between luxury and loneliness.
Back with a Trusted Collaborator
Produced by Bhandarkar Entertainment and P J Motion Pictures, The Wives marks Bhandarkar’s second collaboration with producer Pranav Jain after their well-received film India Lockdown.
“Collaborating with Madhur sir again is truly exciting. He has a rare gift for telling stories that make people sit up and think. The Wives will be an eye-opener,” Jain stated.
Social Media Buzz & Fan Expectations
Bhandarkar, announcing the start of his 16th film on Instagram, wrote: “Today marks the start of The Wives, an original story set in the captivating world of glamour that I’ve explored over the last four years. Bringing this concept-driven project to life is a dream come true.”
Fans are already buzzing, expecting The Wives to deliver “spicy Bollywood revelations in typical Madhur Bhandarkar style.”
One user noted, “Madhur Bhandarkar movies are always subjective, but such subjects need strong presence and heavy actresses.” Another added, “This movie will showcase shocking luxury and become a blockbuster at the box office.”
No Release Date Yet
While an official release date is yet to be announced, The Wives is expected to hit theatres sometime next year, adding to Bhandarkar’s legacy of thought-provoking cinema that challenges the façade of glamour with raw, real storytelling.
