Kiran Rao Discharged After Appendix Surgery, Shares Recovery Update on Instagram

Filmmaker Kiran Rao has been discharged from a Mumbai hospital following treatment for an appendix-related health issue. She shared the update on Sunday through an Instagram post, offering a candid glimpse into her hospital stay and confirming that she is now back home and recovering well.

The post included a short video and several photographs from the hospital. In the first clip, Rao showed the view from outside her hospital room. The images that followed featured a selfie, a close-up of her hospital name tag reading “Kiran Aamir Rao Khan,” and a photograph of her seated comfortably on a couch, smiling while having a meal.

Addressing the health scare, Rao wrote that she had been preparing to welcome the new year when the sudden medical issue forced her to slow down. She described the experience as a reminder to pause and focus on recovery, while expressing gratitude for timely medical intervention. Rao also acknowledged modern medical care, making a light-hearted remark about the appendix removal procedure.

She thanked her doctor, Dr Kayomarz Kapadia, and the surgical team for their care, as well as the staff at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital. Rao also credited her family and friends for acting quickly when the situation arose, mentioning that their prompt response played a key role during the emergency.

In her post, Rao highlighted the personal support she received during her hospital stay, thanking Ira, Popeye and Shefali for looking after her and keeping her company. She also mentioned experiencing an allergic reaction that caused temporary swelling of her lips, joking that visitors largely came by to tease her about it, adding that the reaction has since subsided.

Confirming her discharge, Rao said she is now back home and plans to ease herself into the new year. Reflecting on the year gone by, she noted that 2025 had been kind to her and expressed hope that 2026 would be joyful, peaceful and better for everyone.
