After making a mark in the digital space, director Suparn Varma is all set to make his big-screen debut with a hard-hitting drama, HAQ. According to Pinkvilla, the filmmaker has signed Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam for the project, which has already wrapped shooting quietly.
HAQ is produced by Junglee Pictures in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios. The film is inspired by the landmark Supreme Court case Shah Bano vs Ahmed Khan, a judgement that sparked nationwide debate on women’s rights. While the makers are keeping plot details under wraps, insiders reveal that the controversial theme and intense courtroom proceedings are expected to spark widespread public discourse.
The film marks Yami Gautam’s return to real-life inspired cinema after the success of Article 370 and is her first collaboration with Emraan Hashmi. In HAQ, Emraan will play a sharp yet morally conflicted lawyer, while Yami portrays a woman at the center of a prolonged justice battle. The ensemble also includes Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, and Aseem Hattangady in pivotal roles.
According to Pinkvilla’s sources, the team has locked the teaser for the film, which is expected to create a buzz online soon. The teaser will also reveal the official release date, with insiders confirming a planned launch on November 7, 2025. Post-production work for the courtroom drama is currently in full swing, promising a gripping cinematic experience.
