The much-anticipated sequel, Dhadak 2, is facing significant hurdles as it awaits clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film, which delves into caste discrimination, has raised concerns due to its sensitive subject matter, leading to delays in its approval. As a result, its release date remains uncertain.
Originally slated for a November 2024 release, Dhadak 2 was later postponed to 2025, with speculations suggesting a possible Holi weekend premiere. However, with Holi just around the corner and no promotional activities in motion, an early release seems increasingly unlikely. Reports indicate that the filmmakers are holding off on promotional efforts until they receive full clearance from the CBFC.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the film’s Examining Committee (EC) has acknowledged the boldness of its narrative but is deliberating on the appropriate certification and potential content modifications. The movie’s tagline, “Ek tha raja, ek thi rani. Jaat alag thi, khatam kahani,” as well as the background featuring “Dalit Lives Matter,” further emphasize its theme of caste-based struggles.
The film, directed by Shazia Iqbal and starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, has generated considerable anticipation. Interestingly, Dhadak 2 is a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, which passed CBFC scrutiny without major obstacles. This has led to debates on why Dhadak 2 is facing such rigorous examination despite telling the same story. However, unless the CBFC provides swift clearance, its release might be further postponed. While a 2025 release remains likely, an official date will depend on when the certification process concludes.
