The success of Dhurandhar not only dominated the box office but also produced several viral moments, including its popular track Shararat. However, for actor Ayesha Khan, one revelation about the making of the song unexpectedly sparked online debate and trolling. After previously sharing that she shot the energetic dance number while on her period, the actor recently addressed the backlash and memes that followed her comment.
Speaking at the Women of India Summit organised by Mojo Story, Ayesha said she was surprised to see her statement turn into a topic of widespread online humour. According to her, what she considered a normal and casual remark soon became the subject of memes and social media jokes.
The actor explained that she had never thought of the detail as something unusual because menstruation is a natural monthly experience for women. She pointed out that women continue to carry out daily responsibilities, work commitments and physical activities even during that time.
Ayesha said she first realised the scale of the online reaction about a week after the interview in which she made the comment. By then, several memes and jokes had begun circulating online, some even referencing filmmaker Aditya Dhar and the film itself.
Reacting to the trolling, she said the situation made her question why such a normal aspect of women’s lives had suddenly become a “national joke.” The actor added that the reaction highlighted the need for better awareness and conversations around menstruation, especially among men.
Despite the online criticism, Ayesha maintained that she felt proud of her work on the song. She stressed that there was nothing embarrassing about performing while on her period and said she had no hesitation in speaking about it openly.
The actor also admitted that while she does not usually experience severe discomfort during her menstrual cycle, she did feel slightly self-conscious while filming the song. She recalled feeling bloated at the time and worrying about whether she looked her best on screen, especially because Shararat was a major dance sequence in the film.
The track, sung by Jasmine Sandlas and Madhubanti Bagchi, features Ayesha alongside Krystle D’Souza in a high-energy wedding celebration sequence. The choreography for the song was designed by Vijay Ganguly.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role alongside Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan and Sanjay Dutt. The spy thriller went on to become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025.
Following the massive success of the first instalment, the makers are now preparing to bring Dhurandhar 2 to theatres on March 19, continuing the high-stakes story that captured audiences across the country.
