Aamir Khan Wants Script Changes, Shooting of Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic on Hold

Fans eagerly waiting for Aamir Khan’s biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke may need to wait a little longer. The film, which was set to be directed by Rajkumar Hirani, has been temporarily postponed after Aamir reportedly requested a rewrite of the script.

According to sources, Aamir felt the script lacked the balance of emotion, drama, and humor that audiences expect from a Hirani film. “He expected the story to blend laughter with heartfelt moments, but the script didn’t have enough comedy,” said an insider. This prompted Aamir to ask Hirani and co-writer Abhijat Joshi to rework the screenplay.

The delay means the film, originally scheduled to begin shooting in October 2025, is now on hold. Meanwhile, Aamir has started exploring other scripts from across the film industry while the team considers the next steps.

This biopic was set to be the third collaboration between Aamir and Hirani after their hit films 3 Idiots and PK. Writers Hindukush and Avishkar Bhardwaj reportedly spent four years developing the story, and VFX studios in Los Angeles had already worked on AI-based recreations of the period. Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson had also shared personal anecdotes to enrich the script.

Dadasaheb Phalke, widely regarded as the father of Indian cinema, directed India’s first full-length feature film, Raja Harishchandra, in 1913. To honor his legacy, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award was established in 1969 and remains the country’s most prestigious award for lifetime achievement in cinema. While the project is delayed, fans can be assured that Aamir and Hirani are committed to delivering a film that truly does justice to the life and legacy of Dadasaheb Phalke.
