Delivering on its commitment to the program for the diverse entertainment choices of consumers across the globe, Amazon Prime Video has always given equal emphasis to women-oriented narratives, inspiring the female populace and setting new benchmarks with their successful shows like their latest one – ‘Cinderella’ and others in the recent past including ‘Sherni’, ‘Four More Shots Please’ and ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ among others.

With these above-mentioned shows, Amazon Prime Video has successfully celebrated women-centric narratives through unique conversations and campaigns thereby encouraging them to discover interesting, engaging, and unique content.

We give you an impressive list of shows from the streaming service that have challenged patriarchy, notions that are societally accepted and are pushing the envelope for more 2021 kinda narratives:

Cinderella

One of the most shining examples of a strong women-centric narrative from the house of Amazon Prime Video is their highly-anticipated movie, ‘Cinderella’. Unlike the regular folklore fairytale setting, the new narrative of ‘Cinderella’ has taken the viewers by surprise. The impressive trailer transcends you to a world where the princess is no more longing for her Prince Charming to rescue her, this time the story of Cinderella is different. Chasing her big dreams and breaking the shackles of traditions, our princess Camila Cabello will realize what she dreams of. Featuring an eclectic cast including Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, Nicholas Galitzine, Billy Porter, and Pierce Brosnan, this new-age fairytale is scheduled to release this September 3 on Amazon Prime Video.

Sherni

Headlined by the versatile actress Vidya Balan, ‘Sherni’ showcased an upright Forest officer’s task to resolve man-animal conflict, and is an ode to countless women who navigate their way and overcome several challenges, sometimes even without making any noise.

Four More Shots Please!

Revolving around the lives of four young urban Indian women effortlessly portrayed by Sayani Gupta, Bani Ja, Kirti Kulhari, and Maanvi Gagroo, the first two seasons of the comedy, drama, and romance series was anchored in the unceasing friendship between the four women and showcased their relationships, work-life conflicts, ambitions and anxieties as they deal with being women of the present generation. With the third season in the pipeline, the audience, especially the female populace are all excited!

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

A woman in the 1950s finds her way into a male-dominated profession after her husband cheats on her. Starring Rachel Brosnahan, Alex Borstein, Michael Zegen, Marin Hinkle, Tony Shalhoub, and Zachary Levi, the show features the story of Midge Maisel who lands into trouble several times for her stand-up comics and her outspoken behavior. Her stint is questioned at a time when women weren’t meant to be so upfront. In fact, she goes against societal barriers of being shamed as a divorcee, even though her ex doesn’t go through the same situations in public.

Well, if these narrative-shifting entertainment pieces don’t make us feel more empowered, then what can? Holding my glass heels tighter to take a flight towards their dreams!
