The 22-year-old brand, Saroj Jalan, has been a go-to for luxuriant Indian wear and trousseau shopping due to its timeless silhouettes with perennial embellishments. Heavily inspired by Indian handloom and hand embroidery techniques, the brand has maintained its elegance over the years. From Bollywood actress Richa Chadha to sports sensation Sania Mirza – Saroj Jalan’s garments make the cut for a variety of tastes!

At The Studio during Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019, Saroj Jalan presented her bridal collection ‘Banji’. Inspired by the carefree and colourful women of the Roma gypsys and Indian Banjara community, the creations reflected the mood of a modern bride.

The bridal favourite hues of rustic reds, dusky pinks, bright mustards and pistachio greens peaked the interests of several brides-to-be.  Statement embroidered coats, fluid lehenga skirts, corseted blouses, saris and grand anarkalis – all highlighted the concept of fitted waists with flared hems.

Speaking about the collection Saroj Jalan says, “Our collection Banji is a very special collection as it’s designed for the women of today who feel and believe that life is a fashion show and the world is our runway and so it’s time to put the best foot forward. The collection is very detailed designed and it is a celebration of couture heritage, colours and the glamour of India in our style.

Innovative Bandhej alongside organic fabrics from across the country embellished with appliqué and Rajasthani Dori work; brought together a variety of crafts. Saroj Jalan’s personal interpretation of the Kashmiri Shikarga and a twist to Gulmarg tree patterns were seen in the intricate hand-embroidery on every garment.

Embroidered boots and oxidised jewellery were used to create a boho vibe. The long, fully embroidered golden coat with dusky pink, midi dress flared above the waist was a perfect start to the show. A head-turner was the pastel blue front open Anarkali and skirt combo embroidered in golden and pink, teamed with a shimmering bracelet.

The show culminated with ‘Genelia Deshmukh’ in an intricately designed hand-embroidered bright red lehenga with jacket, walking the runway.

Keeping up with the times, the collection ‘Banji’ fulfilled the desires of 21st-century Indian brides-to-be. Flowing but tailored and grand yet classy – Saroj Jalan presented ensembles every woman would want to wear on her special day.
